BITA Playhouse Earns California Green Building Certification

IRVINE, CA – The Building Industry Technology Academy (BITA) students at Katella High School in Anaheim have created a unique entry to the 2007 HomeAid Project Playhouse annual fundraiser. Not only is their structure student designed, built and decorated, but it is the first playhouse to ever receive a California Green Building certification for its effective use of resources including a solar panel and LED lighting.

As one of the 11 entries, their structure is modeled after traditional 1950’s restaurants and includes state-of-the-art materials, features and aesthetics. The playhouse is complete with state-of-the-art materials, features and aesthetics including and i-Pod docking station, PlayStation, surround sound, flat screen television and one-touch control panel.

Instructor John Puckett is extremely pleased with the amount of work and dedication the students have put into this project, “the kids are involved in every step of the process. They are eager to learn and are enjoying the experience of getting all their ducks in a row for completion”.

The entries will be on display at Fashion Island in Newport Beach from September 8th through October 13th and auctioned off at the annual party with all proceeds benefiting HomeAid Orange County.
